What AI Costs Inside a Plan You Already Pay For
AI inside a subscription is priced three ways: built into the tier, included with no separate line, or metered in credits. Microsoft, Google, Zoom and Notion show all three. Read from four vendor pages on October 13, 2026.
This article is a documentation review: it is based on the vendors' own published pages, checked on the date shown. We may earn a commission from some links; it never affects what we recommend.
The AI line on a pricing page has stopped being an add-on. It is now one of three things: a feature priced into the tier you buy, a feature listed with no price at all, or a meter that runs on credits.
Each shape fails in a different way, and only one of them can surprise you mid-month. This note reads the Microsoft 365 Business, Google Workspace, Zoom Workplace Pro and Notion pricing pages on October 13, 2026, and prices a small team under each rule.
Microsoft prices Copilot into the tier
On the Microsoft 365 business comparison page we read, the only Standard and Premium variants listed carry Copilot in the name: Business Standard with Copilot at $23.50 and Business Premium with Copilot at $32.00 per user a month, paid yearly.
The no-Teams variants are $20.30 and $28.80. Below them sit Business Basic at $7.00, Business Basic without Teams at $5.40, and Apps for business at $10.00. All are annual subscriptions that auto-renew, with 1 TB of cloud storage per user.
We did not find a Standard or Premium plan without Copilot on that page. Read that as what the page showed on the day, not as a claim that no such plan exists; a sales quote may still offer one.
If it does not, the AI decision has already been made for you. Moving from Basic at $7.00 to Standard with Copilot at $23.50 is a $16.50 per user step that buys desktop apps and Copilot as one bundle.
That step is a seat decision rather than a feature decision, and it scales with head count. The distinction between seat-based and usage-based lines is the one we drew in per seat, per contact or per credit billing.
Google lists Gemini as a feature with no price
Google Workspace lists Business Starter at $7.00 per user a month, Business Standard at $14.00 and Business Plus at $22, with introductory rates of $3.50 and $8.40 for the first 12 months and the first 20 users.
Each plan's feature list names the AI directly: Gemini in Gmail on Starter, and Gemini across Gmail, Docs and Meet plus Gemini Notebook on Standard. The page carries no separate AI line item and states that all prices are in USD and exclude tax.
One AI feature is still sold separately. At the Enterprise tier the page lists Assured Controls and AI Classification as an available add-on, which is where AI stops being a feature and becomes a governance product.
Included is not the same as unlimited. The page does not print usage caps for Gemini, so ask what happens to heavy use before you build a workflow on it. That is the same question we asked about usage-based billing units.

Zoom says the words out loud
Zoom's Workplace Pro page states that AI Companion is included at no additional cost with the paid services in your Zoom user account. The price shown on the card we read was $15.99 per month per user for 1 to 9 users.
The same card lists up to 30 hours per meeting and 10 GB of cloud recording storage per licence. Larger teams sit on a different card, so confirm the rate for your head count rather than carrying the $15.99 across.
An explicit no-extra-cost statement is worth more than silence. It is the sentence to screenshot, because it is also the sentence most likely to change at renewal.
Notion meters it, and its own pages disagree
Notion lists Free at $0, Plus at $10 and Business at $20 per member a month, with yearly billing marked as saving up to 20%. All three plans show Trial of Notion AI rather than Notion AI, and several features are marked Requires Notion credits.
The meter is printed plainly: AI agents are free to try, then $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits. Credits are the unit, the month is the reset, and the page does not state what a single action consumes.
Notion's own startup programme page says something different. It offers up to $12,000 in value on the Business plan and states that Notion AI is included. Both pages were live on October 13, 2026.
We are not picking a side. Print both, then confirm at checkout, which is the only place the answer is binding. A credit meter also behaves like a contact limit: the definition sets the bill, as in what contact limits mean in email marketing tools.

Price ten people under each rule
Editorial arithmetic from the published rates above, annual billing where shown, tax excluded. These are not vendor quotes and the four products are not substitutes for each other.
- Google Workspace Business Standard: $140 a month for ten users, with Gemini named in the plan features and no AI line item
- Zoom Workplace Pro: $143.91 a month for nine users at the rate we read, AI Companion stated as no additional cost
- Notion Business: $200 a month for ten members, plus $10 per 1,000 credits whenever agents are used
- Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot: $235 a month for ten users, Copilot priced inside the tier
- Microsoft 365 Business Basic: $70 a month for ten users, web and mobile apps, and no Copilot in the plan name
The spread between the cheapest and the most expensive row is more than three to one, and most of it is the AI decision rather than the productivity suite underneath it.
Three questions that settle the AI line
- Is the AI in the seat price, in a higher tier, or on a meter? Only the meter can move mid-month
- If it is included, is it capped? A page that names a feature without a limit has not promised an unlimited one
- If it is metered, what does one action cost in credits, and what happens when the month's credits run out
Ask the third question in writing. Credit packs are the newest line on these pages and the least documented, and a meter with no published consumption rate cannot be budgeted, only watched.
Vendors answer that question far more clearly for contacts than for credits, as the three email tools in what contact limits mean in email marketing tools show.
Then price the plan you would buy without the AI, and treat the difference as the AI's real cost. At Microsoft that difference is $16.50 per user a month between Basic and Standard with Copilot.
Bottom line
Google and Zoom currently name AI as part of the plan and charge nothing extra on the pages we read. Microsoft has folded Copilot into the tier names, which makes it the default rather than the option. Notion sells it by the credit.
Decide which model your spending can absorb before you compare features. A fixed seat price is predictable and sometimes wasteful; a credit meter is cheap until it is not.
The same choice sits under every free trial or free plan decision, and under every CRM free plan comparison worth running.
Frequently asked questions
Does Microsoft 365 Business include Copilot now?
On the business comparison page read October 13, 2026, the only Standard and Premium variants listed were Business Standard with Copilot at $23.50 and Business Premium with Copilot at $32.00 per user a month paid yearly. We found no non-Copilot variant of either on that page.
Does Google Workspace charge extra for Gemini?
Not as a line item on the pricing page checked October 13, 2026. Gemini appears inside each plan's feature list, from Business Starter at $7.00 up to Business Plus at $22. At Enterprise, AI Classification is listed as a paid add-on.
Is Zoom AI Companion free?
Zoom's Workplace Pro page states AI Companion is included at no additional cost with the paid services in your Zoom user account, as of October 13, 2026. The card we read priced Workplace Pro at $15.99 per user a month for 1 to 9 users.
How much does Notion AI cost?
The pricing page shows Trial of Notion AI on Free, Plus and Business, and prices agents at $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits after a free trial. Notion's startup page separately says Notion AI is included. Confirm which applies at checkout.
Which AI pricing model is cheapest?
For ten people, Google Workspace Business Standard at $140 a month is the cheapest row with AI named in the plan, against $235 for Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot. Notion Business at $200 adds credit charges on top when agents run.
Can an included AI feature start costing money later?
Yes. None of these pages promises a price for the life of the subscription, and Google's own introductory rates expire after 12 months. Record the date you read the page, and re-check the AI line at every renewal.
